What is a Track Alignment?
The process of adjusting the vertical and horizontal track sections so the garage door moves smoothly without binding or jumping.
Track alignment refers to the precise positioning of the garage door track sections to ensure the door moves smoothly and evenly. Proper alignment means the vertical tracks are plumb (perfectly vertical), the horizontal tracks have a slight upward slope toward the back of the garage (so the door stays in the open position), and the curved sections transition smoothly between the vertical and horizontal sections. Signs of misaligned tracks include: the door makes scraping or grinding noises, the door appears crooked or uneven, the door binds or sticks at certain points, the rollers pop out of the track, or there are visible gaps between the rollers and track. Track alignment can shift over time due to vibration, settling of the building, accidental impacts, or loosened mounting brackets. Alignment should be checked during annual maintenance and corrected by a professional using precision levels and shims.
