What is a Garage Door Roller?

Small wheels (nylon or steel) attached to the sides of each door panel that ride inside the vertical and curved tracks.

Garage door rollers are small wheels — typically 2 inches in diameter — that are attached to hinges on the sides of each door panel. They ride inside the vertical and curved track sections, allowing the door to move smoothly between the open and closed positions. Rollers come in two main materials: steel rollers (less expensive but noisy, with a shorter lifespan of ~10,000 cycles) and nylon rollers (quieter, smoother, longer-lasting at ~25,000 cycles, and they don't require lubrication). A standard single-car garage door has 10 rollers; a double-car door has 14. Worn rollers are one of the most common causes of a noisy or jerky garage door. Replacing steel rollers with 13-ball nylon rollers is one of the best upgrades for a quieter, smoother-operating door.
