What is a Bottom Bracket?

The heavy-duty bracket at the bottom corner of each garage door panel where the lifting cable attaches.

Bottom brackets are heavy-duty steel brackets bolted to the bottom corners of the garage door. They serve as the attachment point for the lifting cables — the cables loop through or connect to the bottom brackets, transmitting the lifting force from the spring system to the door. Bottom brackets are under extreme tension when the door is closed (they bear the full weight of the door through the cable connection) and should never be adjusted or removed by homeowners. A broken or damaged bottom bracket can cause the cable to detach, resulting in the door dropping suddenly. Bottom brackets also house the bottom roller, which guides the door into the track. If a bottom bracket needs replacement, the spring tension must first be safely released by a professional technician.
