What is a Sectional Garage Door?
A garage door made of horizontal panels (sections) connected by hinges that bend at the curve in the track.
A sectional garage door is the most common type of residential garage door in North America. It consists of several horizontal panels (typically 4–5 sections) connected by hinges. When the door opens, the panels bend at the curved section of the track and stack horizontally along the ceiling of the garage. Sectional doors are available in a wide variety of materials (steel, aluminum, wood, fibreglass, composite), insulation levels (R-6 to R-18+), and styles (raised panel, recessed panel, flush, carriage house, modern/contemporary). Advantages of sectional doors include: excellent insulation options, wide variety of styles, easy panel replacement if damaged, good wind resistance, and they don't require clearance in front of the garage (unlike swing-up doors). In Canada, insulated steel sectional doors are the most popular choice due to their durability, low maintenance, and thermal performance.
